A century of innovative strength: Over the past two days, our colleagues Tamara Sturm and Marcus Peters
had the opportunity to experience a very special chapter of German engineering history.

Together with Pulsotronic GmbH (formerly SKS Kontakttechnik GmbH), we celebrated in Niederdorf
the 100th anniversary of the banana plug patent from March 18, 1926.

Two days full of inspiration:

The manufacture of cable connectors has a long tradition at Vogt AG and has been one of its core competencies since its inception. Correct crimping ensures a homogeneous, secure connection between the conductor and the connecting element, guaranteeing a high level of electrical and mechanical safety.

The One27® range offers a high level of flexibility and at the same time reliable connectors for a number of board-to-board applications. The product family is based on a pitch of 1.27 mm, offers both straight and angled types as well as connections with ribbon cable, and is available in pin counts from 12 to 80 pins. With the D-Sub enclosure series from econ connect, you have a wide selection of different hoods for the assembly of your own D-Sub connections.

Whether you prefer plastic versions, enclosure with metallized surfaces or high-quality metal variants are preferred, is irrelevant.
For almost all common pole numbers of 9, 15, 25, 37 and 50 poles, the right hood is available in the econ connect range, depending on your wishes and the planned purpose of use.

I was very excited about the induction after my long absence. There were major changes in terms of both personnel and the company's move to the newly built premises. My return was made very pleasant and I'm really pleased to be working with my team again.

After my apprenticeship at the company, I ended up in Marketing in 2013. Here, I work with my colleagues on everything to do with the online store and PR. We produce product photos, edit data sheets, create news entries and do a lot of other creative work for EVE.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Modern network infrastructures are sometimes very extensive and not only place high demands on the transmission performance of the individual components. The space required also plays an important role, as more and more hardware has to provide the necessary capacities in ever smaller spaces. Finder continues to drive the (r)evolution of high power print relays and now offers a new 68 series print relay with 2x 100 A switching capacity. More and more applications require a high and reliable switching capacity with a compact size at the same time. It is therefore not surprising that the new 68 series with the high-power print relay is primarily aimed at applications with intensive switching capacity.

Classic application areas are high power applications such as photovoltaic systems, battery chargers, power generators, pump control, inverters, elevators and electric charging stations as well as HPC chargers. Finder recognized the need for these special requirements when it developed the product. The new 68 series is a one hundred percent in-house development from Finder and is manufactured exclusively in Europe. This ensures the usual high product quality Made in Europe as well as short supply chains through an exclusively European production.

The high-power 68 series print relay offers 2x 100 A switching capacity. The rated voltage is 400 V AC to a maximum of 690 V AC. In accordance with VDE 0126-1-1, EN62109- and EN 62109-2, the contact opening is ≥ 3.6 mm. The electrical life at a switching load category AC7a is 30,000 operations. The coils have a 700mW holding power are thus highly sensitive for their power class and design. The insulation between coil and contacts is reinforced. The contact material is cadmium free. The almost cube-shaped and compact size has the dimensions 52.2 x 52.5 x 57.5 mm (WxDxH). The 68 series is suitable for use in ambient temperatures from -40 up to 85 C°. The heat and fire resistance complies with EN 60335-1.

Over the last four decades Stäubli Electrical Connectors has become a synonym for safe and high-quality measurement accessories worldwide. With the series AK205, SLK410, LK410L as well as the fuse measuring cable series XSMS we now offer a wide range of highly flexible test leads, which meets and even exceeds the strict safety requirements for today's insulated test equipment.

With the AK205 series, highly flexible adapter test cables with stackable 2 mm MULTILAM connectors on one side and 4 mm MULTILAM connectors on the other side are available. The rated voltages or currents for these cables are AC 30 V / 10 A and DC 60 V / 10 A. The strands used have a PVC-jacket with a conductor cross-section of 0.5 sqmm and are available in lengths from 7.5 cm to 60 cm.

The SLK410 series offers measuring cables with silicone insulation and is equipped with stackable 4 mm MULTILAM connectors on both sides. The rated voltages of 1000 V CAT II and 600 V CAT III and rated currents of 19 A are suitable for a wide range of applications. The series is available with a conductor cross section of 1.0 qmm available in lengths from 0.25 m to 2 m and is CE and UL certified.

Gold-plated 4 mm MULTILAM plugs and highly flexible connecting cables are available with the LK410L series. With rated voltages of AC 30 V and DC 60 V and rated currents of 19 A you get sufficient reserves for your measuring tasks in the low voltage range. As insulation material of the 1.0 sqmm strands PVC is used. The test cables are available in lengths from 0.25 m to 2 m.

In addition to the series mentioned above, Stäubli offers the XSMS series, a range of fuse test leads. The highly flexible cables with integrable high performance fuses are designed for 1000 V CAT IV according to IEC/EN 61010-031 and allow the use of standard 4 mm safety test probes and clips for secured measurements. The two-part fuse plug can be opened with a few turns of the screw for changing the fuse and allows a high performance fuse 6.3 x 32 mm.

The KT series is ideal for environmentally friendly applications, such as photovoltaic technology or hybrid vehicles. It is particularly useful when measuring insulation resistance across multiple components in a solar installation before connecting to the grid to prevent injury and subsequent leakage currents.

The relays provide an insulation resistance of greater than or equal to 10¹⁰ Ω and an insulation voltage between coil and contact of greater than 7 kV DC. Measuring only 30 x 8.6 x 10.6 mm (L x W x H), these high insulation properties are offered in an extremely small component. The Type 40.62 with AC coil is the latest addition to Finder's relay range for industrial, residential and commercial applications. The pliers enable simple and precise stripping of fine to solid round cables in the large capacity range from 0.08 to 16 mm².

The "ETHERtronic PURFlex Single Pair Ethernet" cables are particularly suitable for robust and flexible connections of sensors and actuators in mechanical and plant engineering.

Since 26.08.2020, Walter Gas has been completing a 2-year training course as a specialist warehouse clerk at EVE.

Walter has already been able to get to know the work processes in logistics through a vocational training program. After a successful internship at EVE, his career choice was finally decided.

He is particularly pleased about the warm welcome by his new colleagues, the appreciation of his work and the high degree of personal responsibility.

Walter is 24 years old. In his free time he is very sporty. Walter is an active member of the hobby soccer team "SV Community Sommermärchen". He also enjoys playing basketball. But you can also meet him at a cosy get-together with his friends.

DIP switches are a special type of slide switches. They are used for example with printed circuit boards or mainboards and are used to configure certain basic settings. DIP switches you will find in a wide range of industries and applications, for example on the circuit boards in control cabinets, in industrial plants, in PC systems, gaming machines or also for setting hand transmitters.

The designation DIP stands for "Dual in-line Package", which gives a direct indication of the parallel arranged connection rows of the switch. Because of its appearance, a DIP switch is colloquially called a piano switch, piano DIP switch or jokingly mouse piano. Other designations are dual-in-line switches. The grid dimension usually corresponds to that of simple logic components with the same number of pins.

Jumpers offer a similar functionality. The advantage of a DIP switch over jumpers is the self-contained design and the firm permanent connection to the printed circuit board. In addition, the DIP switch offers the possibility of switching the contacts individually and independently of each other with a slide lever.

With the uniTFTs series, Electronic Assembly now has a range of small-format touch displays in its program that give every switch and control unit the operating convenience of a tablet. Thanks to an integrated graphic controller, extensive graphic functions and numerous interfaces, the displays are ready to run without additional peripherals.

Only three fingers wide is the smallest variant from the new uniTFTs series. Nevertheless, this capacitive touch display offers a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels on its 2.0 inch screen diagonal. In addition, the 2.8-inch (320 x 240), 3.5-inch (480 x 320) and 4.3-inch (480 x 272) diagonals are also currently available in this series.

The brilliant color displays feature IPS panels with AACS technology (All Angle Color Stability). Contrast and colors therefore remain virtually unchanged even at extreme viewing angles. With the new surface cleaner COVKLEEN, CRC launches a product that combines two essential steps for a pathogen-free surface.

In the first step, the cleaning of the surface significantly supports the removal of pathogens on contaminated surfaces. In the second step, disinfection achieves an effective reduction of human corona viruses and other viruses, bacteria and fungi. It is used in industry, transportation and SOHO environments.

FELDER Löttechnik has adapted its coils to the current market requirements and will make a corresponding change in the coming weeks.

The geometry of the reels has been adapted with regard to the processing on all current machines. All European machine manufacturers were taken into account. The new reel also offers the advantage that the „ISO core solder wires“ are wound up much more gently and without any deformation. The new reels are slightly larger in size although considerably less plastic is required for production. Furthermore, 100% recycled plastic is used. At embedded world 2020 on 25 February in Nuremberg, the innovative display manufacturer Electronic Assembly presented the world's first series of smart miniature touch displays.

The first member of this new display family is also the smallest with a screen diagonal of just 2". Further formats with 2.8", 3.5" and 4.3" will follow from mid-April, but can already be ordered from us now. With a brightness of 1000 cd/m2 and more, they offer a brilliant and high-contrast display and a viewing angle of almost 180° even in bright daylight.

The intelligent display components with object graphics open up completely new possibilities for the user. Depending on the display type, moving objects are now also possible for the first time. at eve's most important supplier locations in China, Taiwan and South Korea, the peak of new infections has now been passed for a few weeks.

So now I see all areas of domestic economic output continuously increasing and production rates returning to normal.

Occasionally, we have not yet returned to harmoniously coordinated logistics chains, but in this cases we can rely on local networks that have been reliably supporting us for years.

Much more difficult to evaluate is the political approach in our home market in Europe / Germany.
Here we will encounter significant regional differences in dealing with containment measures of the infection wave.
Preparations have been made on the premises and in the eve team - in the next few days it will depend on the situation in Germany to evaluate the situation here.

Although in my opinion not sufficiently emphasized in the local media, the course of infection with the Covid-19 virus in the People's Republic of China is pleasing:
For two weeks (!) now, more people have been cured of the Covid-19 virus and are being discharged or registered, than new infections are reported or admitted.

Nevertheless, effects on the economy are still foreseeable. We are already receiving an increased number of orders - the sooner we know your requirements planning, the better we can act right now. From our point of view, the situation in the semiconductor market requires special attention and consideration. If your orders contain products from the "semiconductor" sector or items equipped with semiconductors (e.g. measuring instruments, power supplies), we experience and further expect a worsened availability from the countries of origin China and Taiwan.

as of 24 February 2020, all EVE suppliers in Asia have now reopened their offices.

This will completely enable us to announce delivery dates from the end of the first week in March.

Predictably, for processing new orders scheduled to be manufactured in Asia, particularly in the People's republic of China, serial production has been moved to areas that are capable of production if neccessary.

Further development at the production sites majorly depends on the political handling of this Covid-19 infection wave.
Resuming production capability is just one side of the coin, the other side involves adequately organising the logistics of preliminary products.

The tool manufacturer Weicon from Münster is one of the first companies to successively change the sales packaging of its tools from plastic blisters to cardboard.

By using recyclable materials, Weicon underlines its claim to sustainable production. The switch to cardboard saves approximately six tons of plastic per year.

The changeover of packaging will take place during the ongoing process and therefore requires some time.

We would like to share the current status and update information on the effects of the Covid-19 infection wave with you.

As of now, almost all production facilities of the eve GmbH are manned again and since 17 February 2020 actions are arranged to resume batch production.

Only two suppliers are logistically unattended due to their geographic positions and the political measures in that province. For all others, we assume to restore our usual production capacities until 3 March 2020.

Implications:
Existing production orders for the future are already processed again as of today. Furthermore we can attend to many inquiries and orders through the personal support by our teams in Asia. In just one Chinese province the operational implementation remains questionable due to quarantine measures.

Furthermore:
The vast majority of orders placed as blanket orders are not affected by the current developments at all! In a very few cases, there just remains to resolve when the shipment to Europe can be arranged – but that does not affect the production process.

The further developments at the production facilities are mainly dependent on the political handling of this infection wave.

We will actively keep you informed through this channel. The next situation report is planned for 25 February 2020.

Corresponding counterparts for PCB mounting are available in straight (KB / KBQ) and angled versions (KBWO). These socket connectors are available with single or double row staggered solder pins.

the already tense supply situation for Chinese New Year (CNY), as is customary, will be further exacerbated this year by the coronavirus.
The regular public holidays in the People's Republic of China would have ended on January 29, 2020, but were extended nationwide by the government in Beijing a few days ago until February 2, 2020.

At present, it can be assumed with a probability bordering on certainty that there will be a political decision not to release the domestic traffic flow between all provinces before February 9, 2020.

Even if our manufacturers open their factories again on time on February 10, 2020, this does not mean that normal production with planned delivery times will be possible.
As usual, the general shortage of workers to CNY is dealt with, but this year workers who want to return to the factories will not necessarily reach their destination.
In many parts of the country, public transport is severely restricted by closures.

We expect to receive further information at least from the Taiwan offices next week.

The consequences:
Existing production orders for the future will be reviewed by us from February 10th, 2020. If there are any changes, we will inform you without being asked.
We can still accompany many enquiry and order processes through the personal support of our team in Asia, but unfortunately the operative implementation in the production plants remains unclear for the time being.
In most cases, orders placed with us in the form of blanket orders are not affected by current developments at all! In a few, very few cases, it is only necessary to clarify when a shipment to Europe will take place - but not the completion of products.

The further development at the production sites depends above all on how the political handling of this wave of infection is handled.
We are actively informing about this on this way/at this point.

The KT series is ideal for environmentally friendly applications such as photovoltaic technology or hybrid vehicles. It is particularly useful for measuring insulation resistance across multiple components in a solar system prior to connection to the grid to prevent injury and leakage.

The KT series offers an insulation resistance greater than or equal to 1013 Ω as well as an insulation voltage between coil and contact of more than 7 kV DC voltage. The 2.2-5 series has adopted the successful concept of 4.3-10 and reduced the size accordingly. While the 4.3-10 typically require the same installation space as the classic N-connector, the 2.2-5 are satisfied with the standard installation dimensions of the TNC series.

Electronic Assembly designed the 2-inch TFT020-23 as a full-color alternative to monochrome graphic displays, which are widely used in handheld devices. Despite its compact size of only 36 x 52 mm, it features a very fine resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. With a brightness of 1,000 cd/m² it delivers brilliant images in the office, production or operating room, even in bright sunlight. Thanks to the IPS technology, the crisp, sharp contrast is preserved over a wide viewing angle of 160° and the colours remain unchanged, even at the most oblique viewing angle.

One connector combines all control lines of the display, the backlight and even the optional touch panel with 39 pins at 0.5 mm pitch. The version with capacitive touch surface including I²C controller is called EA TFT020-23AITC. This version measures 43 x 65 mm, the touch panel (PCAP) is optically bonded for a clear and low-reflection display.

The TFT display runs directly at 3.3 V and requires no additional auxiliary voltage. The SPI interface guarantees simple control with all common microcontrollers due to integrated display RAM. The same display can also be addressed via a classic RGB interface. Last but not least, connection to an 8- or 16-bit data bus is also possible.

It offers a resolution of 102×64 pixels on a 1.7" screen diagonal. Because in OLED technology each pixel is an independent light source, there is no angle-dependent contrast attenuation, as is the case with LCD displays. The contrast of at least 2,000:1 remains constant over the entire viewing angle range of 170°. The display is extremely fast and still reacts smoothly and without delay even at temperatures as low as -40 °C. The display is also extremely easy to read. It is protected by a robust, touch-sensitive glass pane. A gentle touch is all it takes to change the displays or trigger actions.

Various graphic functions and character sets with German umlauts are already implemented. Thanks to various digital inputs and outputs, the display can take over small control tasks independently. Communication with microcontroller applications can take place via SPI, I2C or RS-232 interfaces. These are bidirectional and designed for 3.3V levels.

Version with screw terminals

In the Z version EA PLUGS102-6GTCZ, the OLED display also has twelve screw terminals. External sensors or detectors can thus be connected easily and reliably. Two analog inputs enable voltage measurement up to 3.3 V with direct indication on the display. In addition, this variant is equipped with a 26-pin IDC trough connector, which provides additional I/Os and serial interfaces.

Possible applications can be found in home automation and in the "upgrade" of applications with text displays, as well as in the control of smaller equipment.

Transparent supply chains are becoming increasingly important. Distributors need to know which chemical substances are contained in products. Recently, the European Chemicals Agency added four new substances to the Candidate List of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs), selected for their reproductive toxicity, endocrine disruption and a combination of other properties of concern. In this context, the term REACH appears again and again. But what is it about? The following interview with our colleague Oliver Wermers provides an insight.

Question: What is REACH?

Answer: When we talk about REACH, we mean in principle the EU Regulation (EC) 1907/2006, which deals with the registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemicals on their own, in mixtures and in articles.

Question: What exactly does this mean?

Answer: The EU has set itself the goal of regulating substances that are harmful to the environment and humans. In this regulation, it has, among other things, identified a large number of prohibited substances in certain applications and defined a list of substances of very high concern.

Question: What does this mean for us in practice?

Answer: Annexes XIV and XVII of the Regulation are of particular concern to us at EVE. Annex XIV contains the list of substances of very high concern (SVHC). This list is extended approximately every six months. As soon as this list is extended to include new substances, this means for us that the necessary information must be requested from the manufacturers in order to be able to fulfil our obligation to provide information to our customers, to allow safe use of the articles. Annex XVII lists substances that may not be used in certain applications. Here, too, we regularly obtain the necessary information from manufacturers when the list is extended in order to confirm compliance with this prohibition.

Question: What is the difference with RoHS, which also deals with substances?

Answer: The RoHS Directive deals with substances in electrical and electronic equipment, which of course affects us in particular. The REACH Regulation does not only affect the electronics industry, but products of all kinds. It is also about banning substances in toys or clothing, for example.

Question: What can I do to find out more?

Answer: The Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health has put together a very informative website to inform you about this topic. This can be found at: http://www.reach-helpdesk.de/

Question: Finally, can you tell us something about yourself?

Answer: I've been with EVE for over 10 years now and have been responsible for environmental & compliance issues here in the company since the beginning of 2016. In order to always be up to date in this area, I attend the meetings of a Competence Team of the FBDi (Fachverband Bauelemente Distribution e.V.) about 5 times a year in addition to individual seminars. Here we deal with current and also future topics in the area of environment & compliance, which concern us in particular as a distributor. This ensures that we at EVE are always up to date on REACH and its compliance.
