DIN Rail Terminal Blocks

Terminal blocks are normally used to connect a wire to a PCB; DIN rail terminal blocks connect the wire. Depending on the field of use, they are fitted to mounting rails or mounted directly. In practical use, spring terminal technology has also established itself alongside screw connection technology. For setting up a complete system of DIN rail terminal blocks, PTR differentiate between ten different product families. In addition to the various forms of feed-through terminal blocks, these include earth, neutral disconnect, fuse, test disconnect and transformer terminal blocks.


Feed-Through Terminals, Screw Principle by PTR

Mostly apply the screw principle, which has proved itself millionfold and is used worldwide. Clamping yoke and screw are both produced from hardened steel. This provides the clamping yoke unit with the necessary contact power to press the mains-operated conductor against the busbar and in that way to guarantee a gas-proof and vibration- and shake-proof connection.
Terminal blocks with screw principle are available for a very large cross section area of 0.08 mm² to 240 mm². Different kinds of conductors, inflexible and flexible multi-wired and fine-wired conductors – everything leads to a safe contact with this technique!

Leg spring terminal blocks save up to 80% of the wiring time! Compared with screw and tension spring terminal blocks, it is not necessary to use tools to connect the conductor: Massive conductors or flexible conductors with ferrules can be directly applied into the terminal. While inserting the wire the contact with the busbar is automatically established through the leg spring. A screw driver can be used to loosen the conductor or to insert flexible conductors without ferrules. These terminal blocks can be used in all fields of electrical engineeringwithout limitation.

PTR’s tension spring loaded terminals provide a realistic alternative to terminal blocks with screw clamp connection in many fields of application. The clamping principle is comparable to that used in the SR screw terminals. While in the SR series, a clamping yoke holds the conductor in contact with the busbar, in the ZR series, the contact is maintained by means of a specially shaped spring. The ZR series features the following typical characteristics that are decisive for practical applications:
  • 4 alternative labelling options
  • double jumper shafts
  • test points on the contacts
  • encoded fitting

PTR’s tension spring loaded terminals include feed though terminals and earth terminal blocks up to a rated cross-section of 16 mm², and double and triple variants.


Earth Terminals, Screw Principle by PTR

The strict VDE requirement imposed on ground connections, such as low contact resistance, corrosion-free connection points, secured screws, green-yellow colour coding and clear circuit identification – are fully oberserved by the PTR earth terminal blocks. Mounted on the same DIN rail with other types of terminals, they are easily distinguished by their green-yellow colour code. For special emphasis the earth terminal blocks consist of an enclosed green-yellow half shell insulated body made of Polyamide 6.6. Incoming and outgoing earthed conductors have a separate connection point. The structural design of the earth terminal blocks is based on the fact that the mounting rail is used not only mechanically, but also electrically, i.e. as a ground (PE) busbar. Therefore it is possible to position the earth terminal blocks directly next to the phase conductor terminals. Earth terminal blocks offer the same space savings and design features as the other PTR terminal blocksand the general terminal marking system can be used.

Earth Terminals, Tension Spring Principle by PTR

PTR’s ZRSL earth terminal blocks with tension spring connectionshave the same outer dimensions as the ZR series of feed-through terminal and are for the same cross-sections. This enables earth terminal blocks to be mounted directly beside feed-through terminal blocks.

The main characteristics are:

  • low transition resistance
  • non-corroding contacts
  • green/yellow marking on the insulating housings

This means they meet the stringent requirements of IEC 947-7-2. A main difference between these and the earth terminal blocks with screw connections is the automatic contact when the terminal blocks are attached to the mounting rails.

  1. 24.02.2023 - A good connection: The PCB terminal blocks from PTR

    The application areas of PTR HARTMANN's PCB terminal blocks and PCB connectors are extremely diverse. From automation technology, safety technology and telecommunications to building automation, the products can be used.

    PCB terminals are divided into two groups, screw terminals and spring-cage terminals, and at PTR HARTMANN include metric and imperial pitch dimensions from 2.5 mm up to 12.24 mm.

    Different connection principles - e.g. the lift principle used for connections that need to be released frequently to the time-saving and innovative push-in technology - the VDE and cURus certified product portfolio covers all requirements.

    Special designs of PCB terminal blocks and PCB connectors, such as special lengths for solder pins, different colors, partially assembled PCB terminal blocks, marking with pad printing, inkjet printing or laser marking, are part of the range. The delivery of PCB terminal blocks and pin headers in blister tapes, tubes or on trays is possible also.

  2. 26.11.2020 - AK136 series PCB Multi-Connector for safety applications

     

    With the AK136 series, PTR HARTMANN GmbH offers a PCB multi-connector with 5.0 mm spacing which can be inserted from above – this makes it especially suitable for installation in housings.

    The locking guides on the underside allow the AK136 to be fixed in the housing base, and the matching STL136 pin strip is fitted on the PCB in the upper housing part. In safety applications, this allows the power supply to the device to be interrupted when the housing cover is opened.

    With its wire protection system, the AK136 clamps solid wires up to 2.5 mm², and stranded wires, with or without a ferrule, up to 1.5 mm². In the standard version (wave soldering), the STL136 pin strip is available as a high temperature variant for THR solutions (as PU and Tape-on-Reel) and also as an SMD variant, Tape-on-Reel, in different pin lengths.

  3. 08.05.2020 - PTR interface blocks

    Compared to a conventional PCB connector, an interface block as a connecting element has the advantage of a more flexible application and its possible uses are manifold. Starting with board-to-board contacts, directly on the PCB, via hand-held devices, as charging contacts, up to chargers for high-quality laptops, smart phones and e-bikes and a multitude of other applications - everywhere Battery Probes or contacts called Spring Loaded Pogo Pins are used for the transmission of battery charging currents, but also for the transmission of signals.

    The contacts in the plastic block are ideally suited to compensate for differences in height and allow a large tolerance range when contacting the counter contact. The interface blocks thus have a large positioning tolerance and compensate for installation tolerances between the components to be connected.

    In addition to the SMD variant, PTR HARTMANN also offers THR and soldering variants. These allow a high degree of individual designs and applications.
